It’s winter and the only reminders of the holidays for some of us are post Christmas flab and credit card bills. Spring is only 6 weeks away.(Kill me now) Nova Scotia Can be blah in winter.
But it doesn’t have to be. And it shouldn’t be. Yes of course, cuddle in with the storm chips and Netflix when the weather is frightful.
But when it’s not… why not experience our beautiful province with one or more of these 17 adventures?
Outdoor Winter Fun
Get out and snowshoes. Hike Nova Scotia has a great list of snowshoe and many municipalities have snowshoes for loan, so you can try before you buy.
Go ice fishing. You need a license-although you can try it without one during the Annual Sport Fishing Weekend, Feb 16-18th. Please ensure that the ice is thick enough and dress warmly (and bring extra clothing and hot tea in a thermos!) Find regulations on ice fishing here on pages 48-50.
Skate the Oval in Halifax. Or a pristine, smooth lake or pond. Or, like this guy, down the road after one of our freeze, thaw, freezes. Good sense is essential here.(make sure ice is safe and probably skating down the road, although entertaining, is NOT such a great idea) Also many local arenas have family skate times.
Take a sleigh ride. Hatfield Farm offers sleigh rides all winter for only $9 pp plus tax, $7 for kids, 2 years and under free.
Have winter bonfire. Cocoa. Hot-dogs. It’s all very, very good.
