So the most ‘romantic’ day of the year is almost upon us. Valentine’s Day. When you have been married as long as I have…. well, that’s no reason to give up, is it? (Not to self-do something for Valentine’s Day this year)
Whether you have been together 46 days or 46 years (like I have) you can delight your Valentine without resorting to obscenely priced roses and tired boxes of chocolates. Here’s a collection of ideas that are free, low cost or an absolute splurge and all with a Nova Scotian flavour.
Free for you-Priceless for Your Love
Any activity can be romantic if you add hot chocolate or a bottle of wine, cozy blankets a warm embrace.
Stargaze at Kejimkujik National Park, Keji offers an Dark Sky Preserve – protected from all artificial light. Check the weather, dress warmly, bring cozy blankets, hot chocolate in a Thermos (or wine) bread and cheese . Some services within the park will be closed for the winter although the main park/site road will generally be plowed to the junction of Big Dam Road and Jeremy’s Bay Campground Road.Snowshoes may be needed to access the rest of the park.

Drop into the Toothy Moose on Sundays-there’s no cover charge. (But the booze is not free)

Enjoy the lighted fountain at Frost Park, downtown Yarmouth
Bundle up and watch the tidal bore – a unique Nova Scotia phenomenon the occurs in several locations along the bay of Fundy. Times for the Truro bore are here-remember to be 15 minutes early.
