Masstown Market. Serving Up Fresh since 1969

Masstown Market
Showcasing the local best

Masstown Market, just west of Truro at Exit #12 on the Trans Canada Highway, has been a favorite stopping place  for travelers since 1969.
We’ve been several times, and decided to take a drive up that way Easter Sunday.

The parking lot was packed-even more so than usual. While the garden centre was not yet open, but  as usual there was plenty of gawking to be done. Gift shop, local wines, beer and cider, produce section, deli, bakery and restaurant.
as well as a grocery section.

The chowder..well, I won’t say it’s the best in Nova Scotia, because we have many restaurants where the chowder is outstanding- but it’s very, very good.
The deli is stock with delicious salads and soups- I think a tasting station would be a good thing to help me make up my mind.
As with most farm market type establishments, it pays to know your prices. It’s good, local produce so it’s worth a bit more, I suppose.   I was happy to buy 50 lbs (yes 50 lbs ) of # 2 potatoes  for under $10 and a sweet potato-$.99 a lb.
Worth a visit? Definitely.

One thing I LOVE about Masstown Market are the doggie kennels. It’s great that your pooch can be comfortable and out of the hot sun while you browse  and grab lunch.

Masstown Market won 2012 Arnold Rands Heritage Award

Masstown Market was awarded the Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor in 2016

To allow for this year’s continued growth and exciting transition at Masstown Market, the Captain Cob’s Corn Maze & Fun Farm will be replaced in 2017 with a schedule of family fun events, a community garden, walking trails, and a larger than before corn crop planted and donated to Harvest for Hunger NS.

The Lighthouse is  open all year round with fresh seafood and it’s shouldered by the Fish & Chip Boat, rumored to have great fish and chips and seafood pie.I wouldn’t know, because every time I’m there the the line up means at least a half hour wait. Hey, I never said I was patient.
